About

I have painted for as long as I can remember. My mother is a talented artist who taught me watercolour painting and encouraged my artistic endeavors growing up. As I grew older, I was drawn to the vibrant colours and flexibility of acrylic paints as a medium of choice. Over the years I have taken many courses and workshops from talented artists, and more recently studied in a structured environment while completing a two-year apprenticeship program through the Virtual Art Academy. I am committed to continue to study and develop as a painter.

Painting full time would be ideal, but for now I paint when I can. My paintings are influenced by my time spent alone in the woods as a professional forester, my late brother Bruce, and my mother. In 2016, I Illustrated a children's book authored by my uncle Stephen Mitchell titled Lily and Flinge and the Piece of Kibble. Working with bold colours and exciting scenes with children in mind was truly enjoyable.

My current focus is on painting subjects close to home, and attempting to capture a glimpse of the natural beauty I am so fortunate to be surrounded by as a resident of Gabriola Island, BC.
